Podbharati: India's First Hindi Podzine
Founded in April 2007 Podbharati is India's first Hindi podcast magazine. It was relaunched in 2020 as a full podcast platform with multiple shows covering careers, technology, current affairs, and entertainment.
Podbharati (पॉडभारती) is India’s first Hindi podzine — a podcast magazine launched in April 2007, aimed at Hindi-speaking audiences in India and abroad. Its debut show, now called Podbharati Classic, provided comprehensive coverage of Indian language blogging, technology, current affairs, and the entertainment industry — entirely in Hindi, at a time when Hindi podcasting did not exist as a category.
Podbharati was originally co-founded and co-hosted by Debashish Chakrabarty and Shashi Singh. The website, logo, banners, and artwork (both old and new) were designed and built by Debashish. Since May 2020, when the podcast moved to its present home at Podbharati.com, Debashish has run the venture independently.
New in 2025

Long before podcasting became mainstream in India, Debashish was already fascinated by the power of audio storytelling. An avid listener of All India Radio and an active quizmaster and master of ceremonies during his school and college years, stepping into podcasting felt like a natural progression.
In early 2007, he launched Podbharati, becoming one of India’s early independent podcasters. At a time when podcasting was virtually unknown in the country, he invested in professional recording equipment, experimented with the medium, and spent years learning every aspect of podcast creation—from recording and editing to publishing, audience building, and promotion. Along the way, he also established himself as a voice-over artist, further deepening his understanding of audio production.
Believing that knowledge is most valuable when shared, Debashish distilled nearly two decades of experience in podcasting & voice-over space into “पॉडकास्टिंग कैसे करें?”, a comprehensive Hindi guide for both aspiring and experienced podcasters. The book covers everything from choosing the right equipment and recording on a budget to growing an audience, monetising a podcast, and leveraging modern AI tools to create better content.

Podbharati’s journey across platforms is itself a document of the evolution of digital audio hosting in India:
Launch on Blip.tv
Podbazaar Era
Hosting moved to Podbazaar.com, a pioneering Indian podcast hosting platform, founded by California-based Sujatha Jagannathan.
On Podbazaar, Podbharati hosted two feeds:
- Podbharati (original) — 13,800+ downloads
- Podbharati Light (abridged) — 7,000+ downloads
These numbers are significant given the dismal internet speeds of the era and the fact that audio streaming had not yet arrived.
